The Government House Daman is a the official residence of the Honourable Administrator of Daman and Diu. The residence was built during the Portuguese rule and reflects a few elements of the Portuguese style of architecture. However, over the years, the residence has been subjected to several interventions which ultimately affected the original layers of the fabric. The timber members especially, were severely deteriorated, the pitch roof was leaky and caused dampness in the walls below. The walls were also under several layers of paint which affected the aesthetics but also the building material below. A large number of doors and windows were restored back and a few newly done. The interior spaces have undergone major changes to create a luxurious appearance considering the resident viz the Honourable Governor and the elites and Diplomats as the guests. Every detail has been carefully worked out to create a neat and bring in the grandeur appearance to the residence. From wallpaper to artefacts every aspect has been worked on the theme of magnificence. The structural strengthening of the entire structure has been comprehensively worked out to maintain the structural soundness and longevity of the structure. The timber, especially has been extensively used either in the form of reused or new as required. The choice of material was chosen wisely to suite the context of heritage and as well as respect the authenticity. Specialized lime slaking tanks were setup and every batch oflime was mixed with natural additives to help it achieve strength.
